Bob Saroya was elected to the House of Commons on October 19th, 2015 to represent the riding of Markham-Unionville. He currently serves as the Deputy Official Opposition Critic for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, and is a member of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration.
Mr. Saroya was born in Punjab, India, and immigrated to Canada in 1974. After arriving in Canada with just $7 in his pocket, he became a successful entrepreneur and served as a corporate director for a multi-billion dollar Canadian company.
His passion for public service led him to volunteer for several local charities in York Region. In his spare time, he meets with and mentors new immigrants.
Mr. Saroya resides in York Region with his wife Roopa. His eldest son, Rohin, is a practicing medical doctor in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His son Tarun is a graduate of the University of Toronto. His daughter Shalin is a fourth-year science student at York University.
