Christmas Newsletter

Dear Markham-Unionville residents,

I have been busy these past several weeks in Markham. I had a chance to see many of you at the Markham Santa Claus Parade and the Unionville Olde Tyme Christmas Parade. Our community is growing and families are busy preparing for the holidays.

The world however, is still a dangerous place. Just several days ago we saw a Coptic Church in Egypt attacked in a despicable and cowardly suicide bombing. I rose in the House of Commons to condemn such acts of radical Islamic terror.

Our Conservative caucus has held this Liberal government to account, whether it is on the rollback of the tax free savings accounts, tax benefits for our families and the ballooning deficits and national debt.

In his first year, Trudeau missed 35 out of 53 question periods, that’s 66% of days on the job. If Markham-Unionville residents didn’t show up for work they would be out of a job.

The reckless Trudeau Liberals are closing the Immigration Processing Centre in Vegreville, cutting almost 300 jobs and devastating that community.

The Trudeau Liberals are backing away from their own electoral reform committee’s recommendation of a referendum. Canadians spoke loud and clear at public consultations across the country. If the Liberals want to change how we vote, they ought to go to the people.

The reckless Trudeau Liberals are bringing failed ideas from the Wynne Liberals to Ottawa, including an expensive carbon tax on everything and shady cash for access fundraising.

The Liberals continue to make a mess of governing. They have set their eyes on removing barriers to opening injection sites across Canada. The Liberal gang is repealing legislation mandating 26 requirements, including extensive community consultations before the opening of a new site. I have repeatedly called on the Liberals to clarify their position and intentions. Minister of Health Jane Philpott (Markham-Stouffville M.P.) has taken our community’s voice away in the decision making process and proven our suspicions all along. As the Liberals were busy name calling, I stood up for Markham-Unionville families and will continue to voice our opposition to aiding addicts instead of treating them.

With the holidays approaching I wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah and healthy, happy and prosperous New Year!
