National News

The Liberal government has once again floated radical social policy changes in Canada. The Justice Minister Mrs. Jody Wilson-Raybould has stated “she is open to decriminalizing small quantities of drugs and easing Canada’s prostitution laws”. I will continue to oppose the Liberal drug agenda.

I was horrified to learn about the van attack tragedy that took place so close to Markham where many constituents work and visit. I applaud the bravery of the first responders and extend my condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The Parliamentary Budget Officer has given an objective cost assessment of the “proposed national carbon pricing scheme”. I call this what it is – a new tax. The report is damming, it predicts the cost to the Canadian economy will be $10 billion in 2022. Markham residents already pay some of the highest gas prices in the GTA, this will continue to raise the cost of household goods and expenses.

Local News

I visited British Columbia and participated in a round table with the “Last Door Organization”. I heard how local groups are addressing drug addiction and treatment across Canada’s west coast. I meet with various immigration stakeholders alongside my colleague Alice Wong, the former Minister of Seniors in Richmond. I also attended one of the largest Vaisakhi parades outside India in Surrey with over 600 000 people.

My colleague the Member of Parliament for Calgary-Shepard Tom Kmiec and I spoke to students at Markville Secondary School and visited local businesses. Our visit included a local pizza shop, a recently opened furniture store and a high-tech manufacturing firm. The current federal and provincial governments have made it more difficult for businesses to operate with out of control taxes and regulations.

I meet with a seniors group in our community heard how we can make our community more senior and family friendly. We owe it to those who built our society to stand by them in their golden years.

As always should you require any assistance please do not hesitate in reaching out to my office.

Sincerely,

Bob Saroya
