Remembering D-Day

On June 6th we pause and remember the honour and bravery of tens of thousands of soldiers, sailors and air men and women who supported and participated in the Normandy landings of June 6th, 1944, leaving behind their loved ones to defend the free world against evil and hatred.

Their sacrifice and legacy lives onto this day as we continue to live by the values, that those brave men and women gave of their lives to honour and uphold – Freedom, Democracy, Human Rights and the rule of Law. Their successful mission to bring liberty to Europe would also not have been possible without the hard work of hundreds of thousands of Canadians who contributed to the war effort right here at home.

As we pause to remember the price paid during D-day and the Battle of Normandy, let us also pay tribute to our men and women in uniform who continue to selflessly serve Canada, and offer a prayer for their continued safety.

On behalf of the constituents of Markham-Unionville I wish to express our sincere thanks to our Canadian Veterans for a debt that can never be repaid.
